Sex Toys: The changing attitudes

Times are definitely changing - long gone are the bad old days when people would be too embarrassed to buy their dildos or vibrators. Even condoms could be difficult for some! Of course the internet has gone a long way in helping people from all over the world to get over their initial barrier of buying their first adult sex toy. The internet has revolutionised the ownership of sex toys and has helped bring them firmly to a mainstream clientèle. Only 10 or so years ago one would have had to go to a seedy shop, probably in a run down part of a city, to set their eyes on the wide range of sexy toys available. But not now! Even the mainstream media are getting in on the sex toy craze (or whatever they're labelling it as) with stories appearing weekly in the big newspapers.

All that said, we still don't want our neighbours to know that we've just taken delivery of a super duper rabbit vibrator, strap on dildo and a glass butt-plug (plus lots and lots of good ol' lube too of course!) - but this "secrecy" is less so about embarrassment and more to do with us being private about what goes on in our bedrooms. Also it has nothing to do with so-called shame either! If someone's prudish then it's their loss eh ladies and gents?! And anyway, if your neighbours did know what you'd bought they'd probably be so curious that they'd have to go out and buy one (or two) for themselves! But to save any funny looks, twitching net curtains and over-exaggerated winks from the postman, it is probably best to have your sex toys delivered in discreet plain packaging.

I know of many people who have what could only be described as a “library” of sex toys. These sex toy addicts could easily have a different dildo/vibrator for every day of the year! And out of the hundreds of play things they usually have a favourite one (or two. Or three!) They talk affectionately about their favourite toys like they're good old friends who've been through a lot together :) and in many ways they are and they have been! For the rest of us, with a more modest collection, most people would consider that sex toys are an essential part of a very healthy and fulfilling sex life. No matter where you sit on the spectrum of sex toy owner, we can all agree that these sexy play toys can add an awful lot of pleasure to our sex lives and also give a sense of a deeper level of intimacy; whether you're on your own, with your one special lover or even part of a large group(!)
